Shetland - Northern Lights

One major surprise on my trip to the Shetlands this week was a great sighting go the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).  I’ve never seen them before and I didn’t think a short visit in March would give the opportunity but luck was definitely on my side this time.  It was a short display as after about 10 mins the lights were gradually obscured by a band of light cloud.

(Actually, the real story was I was just settling down relaxing for the evening when I get a call from Richard telling me that the Aurora was likely to be ‘on’ followed by a set of instructions on how to walk from my accommodation up to a loch which was dark and should offer a good view.  I pulled on some warm clothes and set of in hope with camera, tripod and a head torch to light my way and the foreground.  Very pleased that I took Richard’s advice.)
