Orchids in the meadow…

I don’t spend so much time on plants as animals.  I probably should but I’m, by inclination, more of a zoologist than botanist.  But, from time to time you spot something or, as happened on this occasion, it is pointed out to you by a fellow walker (thanks) that you have to take a moment over.  Today, it was an orchid just blooming in the rapidly growing meadow grass.  For the record, I think this one is a common spotted orchid (spotted on account of its leaves, which are just visible at the base of the first photo) and it should be flowering from about now (June) through August.  The grass is growing fast and many meadow flowers are now in bloom but an orchid is a real treat.

Taken on Nikon D500. Lens-wise, I was somewhat ‘loaded for buffalo’ today so these were taken on the only lens I had, the 200-500mm f/5.6. the first at 250mm and second at 500mm at minimum focus.  The first is at f/6.3 to try and maintain some reasonable isolation of the flower while not loosing the surrounding grass.  The second was at  f/8 to give a little more depth of view on the flowerhead.
