Brace and a half for Easter

Its Easter Saturday and its been a glorious day so we decided to visit Wakehurst Place in West Sussex.  Wakehurst is the ‘country home’ of the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew.  It’s a site of some biodiversity importance globally because it hosts the Millenium Seedbank; a repository of some 2 billion seeds and growing from around the world.  As you might also guess, with the connection to Kew, it’s also a botanical garden, park and a wildlife reserve.

Partly, I suspect as a result of the last point, there are some very relaxed pheasants in residence.  After all, if you are a pheasant you are going to be pretty happy in a place that is away from busy roads (pheasants are notoriously bad road crossers) and with nobody going to chase you up into the sky with dogs and knock you down again with a 12 bore.  So I couldn’t resist grabbing a number of (camera) shots of the male birds resplendent in breeding plumage in the sun.
