Kestrels winter light

Today, I spent a couple of hours watching and following a Kestrel as it hunted around a local field that is intentionally conserved as a meadow.  It was fascinating watching it’s behaviour quartering the field, using the breeze to hold station and resting in various trees around the field edge from time to time.  I didn’t see it catch anything today though it did dive into the grass once and would occasionally swoop in closer to the ground to check.

Unfortunately, this kestrel chose to keep a sensible distance so there were no really tight in opportunities but I did like the silhouette and backlighting with the clear winter air of this shot.
